Vilnius Town Hall
At Vilnius Town Hall, different generations and different musical voices will come together through a shared tradition that lives on in the name of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The concert A Wreath for Čiurlionis will bring together young musicians from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art and one of Lithuania’s leading professional choirs – the Choir “Vilnius”.
The concert will open with the youngest čiurlioniukai – the school’s Junior Choir conducted by Saulė Kriščiūnaitė. The programme will continue with some of the most distinguished performers of the younger generation, laureates of national and international competitions: violinists Rokas Diržys and Emanuelė Jakštaitė, harpist Linė Lipnickaitė, saxophonist Gabrielius Martinez Martin, pianists Saulė Kundreckaitė, Elinga Stigaitė and Aronas Ruminas, flautist Saulė Bužinskaitė, and clarinettists Motiejus Vilius and Martynas Vilius.
The young performers’ programme will range from M. K. Čiurlionis’ preludes to virtuosic works by Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, Pablo de Sarasate, Fryderyk Chopin, Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, Henriette Renié, Benjamin Godard, Eugène Bozza and George Gershwin.
The concert will culminate with the Choir “Vilnius”, led by Chief Conductor Artūras Dambrauskas. One of the defining features of the choir’s artistic identity is its particular focus on Lithuanian and contemporary music, premieres of new works, and unexpected musical projects. On 22 November, alongside music by M. K. Čiurlionis, the choir will perform works by contemporary composers written especially for the Čiurlionis anniversary commemorated last year.
